Teach me to Pray
Lord…
I want to know
Exactly how to pray.
I need some words
Please tell me what to say.
Should I bow my head?
Or kneel down,
Should I close my eyes,
Or raise my hands.
Do I sit or stand?
Jesus, what do you like?
Should I turn the lights on,
Or turned it off?
Should I chatter?
Or should I whisper?
Should I shout?
Or quote the Bible?
What about the time?
Do You prefer the dawn?
Or the dusk?
Tell me, Jesus…
I heard a sweet voice say,
“My dear child…
Do you think I care
About time or place,
If you stand or kneel?”
All I want from you,
Is a close communion with you,
Just open your heart,
And give yourself to Me.
Tell Me your heart’s desires
and sorrows
Tell me what you seek;
and that that makes you weak.”
“Speak to me in private
About what concerns you the most;
I know about your good deeds…
You have no need to boast.
My child, you don’t need lessons,
Just talk to me each day;
Tell me your wants, dear child,
Anyone can pray.”
